GOTHENBURG. Young Lions Jani Nyman finally opened his scoring account in the World Cup, when he brought his team up to the winning goal competition and finally created the solution himself.
– Words cannot describe this. Really good feelings, Nyman told Urheilu.
Nyman tied the game with a goal in 58:28. In the competition for the winning goal, he got to a nice place as the last shooter.
If he succeeds, Finland wins. Nyman lifted the puck from his wrist into the net in a wild booing concert by the Swedish audience.
– I don’t know about nervous pressure. I almost started laughing when I heard the booing. Definitely a great place to go and show off your skills, Nyman raved.
Finland’s 5–4 victory in Gothenburg was sensational considering that Sweden had not conceded a goal in the opening group. Not even for Canada.
– We were able to make four plus the toughs. It was insane. Hopefully the same will continue from the next game onwards.
According to Nyman, the team already had a celebrated victory among themselves. He already had his sights set on the playoffs.
Finland will probably face Slovakia in the quarterfinals. Germany should beat Canada in order for Finland to finish fourth in the group and face the United States.
– Before the Latvia game, we decided that we would rise from it and we rose. Now we get to play the playoffs and the team has good self-confidence.
– Now it’s going home or moving on. You have to celebrate for a while, reset, recover, eat well and move on.
