The armed forces will introduce new uniforms in the autumn.

The launch is part of a collaboration with Finland, Norway and Denmark.

Do you see the differences between the old and new uniforms?

The new ground combat uniform 24, or MSU24 as it is also called, will be phased into the armed forces’ operations starting this autumn.

Why are there new uniforms?

– M90 is a good uniform system, but it’s really just a collection of garments that you can combine in different variations. The garments in the new uniform are connected in a different way, and we have also thought about how moisture should be transported as well as possible from the body so that you remain dry, says Marvin Lifbom, head of the Common Material department within the Logistics business area.

The cooperation between the Nordic countries started already in 2013.

– We are very proud that we have reached the finish line. We wanted to increase cooperation, learn from each other, make a good deal and be more efficient during the procurement phase.

If each country had made individual procurements, there would have been a risk that they would compete for the same production resources.

– Now we give producers opportunities to be able to plan production in the long term.

Suits women better

The new uniforms are also more customizable, including to fit women better compared to before.

– It is very clear with the new system, it should suit women just as well. Previously, you went to the warehouse and said your height and weight, and you got equipment based on that. Now the sizes are based on chest width and inseam width.

The new uniforms therefore come in around 30 sizes. Both the precision and the customization options have changed with the new uniform.

– For example, you can change the height of the knee pads in the trousers so that they sit where your knees sit. They are also more adjustable in the waist and the boot to ensure a really good fit. It is important to be able to maintain your combat value.

Changed pattern

Another clear difference is the camouflage.

– The new pattern is very similar to the old one, but we have shrunk it a bit, and three kroner are also embedded in the fabric.

Although the countries have cooperated, each country will continue to have its own camouflage pattern.

– What may be interesting to know is that Sweden’s new pattern is protected. Previously, it could appear in stores, but with the new pattern, only us can use it.
