The archbishop says no to the proposal for mandatory notification: “We see such serious problems”

The government and the Sweden Democrats want to introduce an obligation to report, that public employees must have an obligation to report undocumented immigrants with whom they come into contact at work.

But it is something that Archbishop Martin Modéus is critical of.

He believes that it will lead to undocumented people keeping their children home from school and stop seeking medical care, because they are afraid of being reported. Therefore, he urges the Riksdag and the government not to introduce the reporting obligation, which is now under investigation.

– We see such serious problems with this. It has to do with value, dignity and people’s right to help and support, says Martin Modéus.

Want to see a more generous refugee policy

The Tidö parties want to tighten migration policy and have made proposals to, among other things, tighten the conditions for family immigration and limit the possibility of obtaining a residence permit. The Social Democrats are on the same track and they also want to see a more restrictive migration policy.

According to Archbishop Martin Modéus, it is the wrong way to go and he instead wants the migration policy to be more generous.

– I think that across the entire political field, the debate has tipped over into a rather narrow corridor, where it is mostly about closed borders and tough measures. I think we can do better, he says in SVT’s 30 minutes.
