According to the news on NTV; Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) began to be seen in emergency departments. The increase in tick cases in Anatolia brought to mind the question of whether there is a similar situation in Istanbul.
Experts state that ticks do not carry diseases in Istanbul. However, the fight against both ticks and mosquitoes in the city started two months early.
Experts recommend that citizens be careful and cautious when encountering ticks on the body. Because the disease process, which begins with complaints such as fever, dizziness and muscle aches, can result in death. Experts recommend being careful in places where there is a risk of ticks.
“TIcks SHOULD BE REMOVED IN A HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT”
Infectious Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Sıla Akhan underlined that ticks should be removed in a hospital environment. “If we remove it ourselves, we may not be able to remove it all.” Akhan said, “If it breaks down there, it may cause an increase in the virus that will enter the body.” said.
Stating that the tick can stick to any open place, Akhan emphasized that protective measures such as trousers should be taken.
MUNICIPALITY’S DISINFESTATION ACTIVITIES
As part of the fight against disease-spreading ticks and mosquitoes in Istanbul, teams are spraying risky areas with 611 personnel.
Önder Yüksel Eryiğit, Head of Health Department of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), stated that the ticks in the city are not currently capable of carrying the Crimean Congo virus.
Stating that precautions should still be taken, Eryiğit said, “After we receive a tick report, disinfection is carried out in that area.” said.
