Nils Ove Kuorak won the singing part and ByCecilia won the singing part in Sami Melodifestivalen 2024.
Now it is time to reload for next year’s competition and on Thursday the application opened.
– SVT will continue to work on giving greater space to new and established Sami artists in our program content and on our platforms. And support NRK in their important work to make the broadcast even better and more exciting, says Moa Frygell, SVT project manager.
What is new compared to previous years?
– The content is not completely set yet, but we will continue to give viewers of Swedish Sápmi the opportunity to vote via the duo app and we hope for representation from all parts of Sápmi among participating contestants.
“Fun if we get joeys in”
The deadline for applications is 25 November for the competition which will be decided on Saturday 12 April next year at the Báktehárji Hall in Kautokeino.
Last year, a total of 43 entries were received, of which twelve entries (six in each category) were selected. Frygell hopes to receive more joik grants this year.
– Regarding the number of contributions, it is impossible to say and varies from year to year. Last year, many songs were submitted, this year it would be fun if we could get joikers in, she says.
New for this year is that EPN is also a co-producer and will broadcast the competition live together with NRK and SVT.
