The appeal is withdrawn – Norwegian fines for border crossings during the pandemic were wrong

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The Norwegian pensioner was vindicated against the Norwegian state when he argued that it was wrong to fine him for crossing the border to visit his sister in Värmland during the latter part of the pandemic.

After a new assessment, the public prosecutor’s office has concluded that there is no basis for punishing Arthur Soltvedts for crossing the border and has therefore withdrawn his appeal.

The border closure is illegal

During the pandemic, Norway kept the border closed with different rules for a total of one year and seven months. The district court fined Arthur Soltvedt, but according to the appeal court judgment, only the first six months were compatible with the Schengen regulations. After that, the border closure was illegal.

So now the acquittal stands.
