Referring to the fact that the world has to face many difficulties regarding health and economy, Koç emphasized that the demand, which was delayed due to the closures in the economies, came into play rapidly in 2021 with the normalization steps. Ömer M. Koç also mentioned that global raw material and commodity prices showed record increases due to insufficiencies on the supply side, and energy prices increased significantly; He mentioned that the problems in the supply of chips, in particular, cause serious disruptions in the production of high-tech products.
“The total production of the Turkish automotive industry decreased by 2 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year and amounted to 1 million 276 thousand units. While the exports of the automotive industry in 2021 were at the level of 25 billion USD, the share of the sector in our country’s total exports was 11 percent. Thus, the automotive sector, which again ranks first in exports, maintained its leadership that it has maintained for 16 years. Due to availability problems, total sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles in our country decreased by 4.6 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 737 thousand 350 units.”
Tofaş increased its production numbers
