The city of Paris is getting organized to achieve the objectives set by the State to reduce its energy consumption by 10% for this winter. Objective: to fight against global warming, but above all to deal with the energy crisis and the soaring prices of gas and electricity.
It will be a little colder this winter in the buildings of the city of Paris. Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of the city, announces that town halls, schools, colleges, and administrations will have to reduce the heating by one degree: ” Apart from nursing homes and crèches, all public buildings will be heated to 18°. And at night we will go down to 12°, also for all unoccupied periods, I am thinking of the weekend. »
The heating will also be switched on later in the season, and in the swimming pools, the water temperature will also drop by one degree.

The energy crisis hits Paris like the rest of France. We did not wait to act, since 2014 we have invested 10 billion euros in the ecological transition. But we have to go further with first measures to save 10% energy ⤵️ pic.twitter.com/5Ti861qPOy

Save up to 10 million euros
Another saving measure: turn off the light. ” I don’t want public lighting to be shut down, because it’s also a matter of safety, said Anne Hidalgo. But there are a lot of lights on which we can act, I’m thinking of all the ornamental lights, the Town Hall, the borough town halls, public buildings… From September 23, the first day of in autumn, from 10 p.m., these lights will be switched off. »
Symbol of the City of Light, the Eiffel Tower will also be off at 11:45 p.m. Several cities in France, such as Lille, Marseille or Montpellier have already adopted such measures to reduce the lighting of public buildings or monuments.
In Paris, the objective of these measures is to save up to 10 million euros. Because if the city usually spends 54 million euros on gas and electricity per year, the energy crisis could increase the bill by an additional 35 million euros in 2022 if nothing is done.
