The American B 52 bomber flew over the Gulf of Finland

Mika Aaltola, director of the Foreign Policy Institute, considers the bomber’s flight in the Gulf of Finland a clear message to Russia. Aaltola commented on the matter on Twitter on Saturday evening.

The US Air Force B-52 bomber has flown over the Gulf of Finland during Saturday evening. The matter can be found, for example, on the website Flightradar24, which tracks flights.

The plane turned back from its route before Suursaari, which belongs to Russia. Suursaari is located about 40 kilometers from the coast of Finland.

We reported earlier this week that Russia’s activities in Suursaari have increased since 2014, i.e. after Russia started operations on the Crimean peninsula.

After the annexation of Crimea, there have been more paratrooper and special forces exercises in Suursaari than before.

Director of the Foreign Policy Institute Mika Aaltola commented on the sighting on Twitter on Saturday evening.

– The flight of the American B-52 plane in the Gulf of Finland is a clear message. The Gulf of Finland is one of Europe’s most strategically important straits, where Russia has increased its activities, Aaltola writes.

He adds that Russia has increased provocative activities from Alaska to the Arctic, and that the turning of a US Air Force bomber in the Gulf of Finland near Suursaari is a counter-message from the US towards Russia.
