The Air Force celebrates 100 years – big event in Linköping

The event goes by the name Anniversary Flight Days and is held on August 22 and 23.

– It feels very gratifying to organize the Jubilee Flight Days in a place where flying is a natural part of everyday life and has been so since the aviation baron Carl Cederström established flying in the city back in 1911. We are extra motivated because we were forced to cancel the 2023 Flight Day which would have took place at Malmen, says Colonel Mats Antonson, head of the Helicopter Flotilla, in a statement.

Three other occasions to celebrate

In addition to the weekend of August 22-23 in Linköping, the defense branch’s 100 years will be celebrated on three other occasions:

  • May 29: Veterans Day at Gärdet, Stockholm.
  • May 23-26: Almedal Week, Visby.
  • July 1: The Air Force’s birthday, Stockholm.
  • One of the country’s biggest events

The Swedish Armed Forces’ Flight Day is one of the country’s biggest events and usually attracts a little over 100,000 visitors.

In 2016, the Air Force celebrated 90 years at Malmen and around 130,000 people came to see old and new aircraft, both in the air and on the ground.

No flight day will be arranged in 2025, because the Air Force believes that it needs to gather strength for the anniversary in 2026.
