In Space Marine 2, the AI companions aren’t much help, but according to the developers, there’s a reason for that. However, there should be a solution soon.
What’s the problem with the companions?
The players’ criticism of the companions has also reached the developers of Space Marine 2. They have now explained why the bots behave like this and at the same time announced a change.
You should be the focus
Why are the companions so useless? The developers explained the behavior of the AI companions in a Q&A session on the current status of Space Marine 2 (via focus-entmt.com). They say: “Bots seem a bit passive because we don’t want them to steal the spotlight from the player.”
This means that you are supposed to be the center of the action and the big celebrated hero. If the bots were better and actually helped to complete the task, it would damage your reputation as the “savior in need”.
Nevertheless, the developers of the co-op shooter are not completely satisfied with the companions and announced a patch.
What kind of change should there be? During the question and answer session, the developers explained that the bots are currently acting a bit too passively. There will therefore be some improvements in the next patch.
The AI companions should behave better in boss fights as a result of the patch. The developers are also considering allowing the bots to play a greater role in completing special tasks in the future. However, this would come with a later patch.
Actually, you should be able to successfully complete a mission in Space Marine 2 despite the AI companions – at least on the low and medium difficulty levels. After all, the developers said that you can even complete missions if your fellow players are just ballast: “idiots” in the team should not be a reason for failure in Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2
