Absent for two years, the African football awards ceremony, the CAF Awards 2022, is back in service this year. It will take place on Thursday July 21, 2022 in Morocco with some new features.
CAF and its sense of the opposite! While we were wondering about the future of the CAF awards put on hold for two years mainly because of the Covid, the Confederation of African Football announced this Sunday, June 19, the return of the prestigious ceremony. It will therefore take place in Morocco, on July 21, two days before the final of the women’s CAN organized in the Cherifian kingdom.
The most prestigious award, the title of African Player of the Year, is obviously eagerly awaited even if CAF has not given the list of nominees a month before the ceremony. Defending champion, Senegalese Sadio Mané remains the big favorite after his CAN title with Senegal last February.
As with the Ballon d’Or France Football, the rules of the CAF Awards change with players now judged on the past season and no longer on the performance of the calendar year. The period taken into account will therefore be from September 2021 to June 2022.
” The winners will be decided by the votes of the captains and coaches of the member associations, the CAF technical study group, the selected journalists, and the Legends of African football “, specifies the CAF.
New this year will be the title of Interclubs Player of the Year
