the African assemblies of the Francophonie propose more dialogue

In Côte d’Ivoire, the 2023 parliamentary session opened on Monday, April 3, and as special guests, 25 delegations from Parliaments on the continent attended this official ceremony. Because at the same time the Conference of Presidents of Assemblies and Sections of the African Region of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie was held.

With our correspondent in Abidjan, Bineta Diagne

Among the host countries are South Africa, Rwanda, Algeria, Senegal and Niger. The President of the National Assembly of Niger, Seini Oumarou, has proposed the establishment of an interparliamentary body to pool efforts in the fight against terrorism. It seems to me that it is high time that the coastal countries join those of the Sahel to organize a response system encompassing the G5 Sahel. Parliaments must therefore take an active part in the search for solutions to the problem posed by terrorism and the abuses that accompany it. »

The President of the Ivorian National Assembly, Adama Bictogo, urged parliamentarians to maintain a spirit of cohesion in this election year:

We must, despite our political, ethnic and religious differences, remain attached to the universal values of peace. I would like to invite us to cultivate tolerance in all its forms, in order to have a normal and peaceful electoral process for the happiness of our fellow citizens. »

This solemn ceremony marks the opening of a parliamentary session which will last nine months. Fifteen pieces of legislation should be studied. Among these, there is in particular a bill to improve the employment of young people, or the promotion of digital startups.
