The Swedish biathlon ladies continue to go strong in the World Cup.
But for Stina Nilsson, things are going slowly.
After the last place in this weekend’s hunting start, voices are now being raised that she should be poked.
Elvira Öberg took home the victory in this weekend’s hunt start after an impressive race with flawless shooting. And during Friday stood Anna Magnusson and Lynn Persson for each super competition where the former took his very first victory in his career. The Swedes have thus started the season brilliantly, but it is a bit heavier for Stina Nilsson.
Courageous for Stina
Nilsson switched cross-country skiing to biathlon in 2020, and has since managed third place as his best result. But during the start of this year’s season, it has been encouraging to say the least.

In Saturday’s chase start, the 29-year-old finished last, where she ended up 7 minutes and 26 seconds behind the lead after shooting ten hurdles. And after the fiasco, voices are now being raised that Stina Nilsson should be pushed in favor of younger talent.
– If you look at her results in this current World Cup season, she has not impressed, neither on the shooting range nor on the track, says Radiosport’s expert Uschi Disl.

“Not enough”
Disl continues, and believes that younger skaters should be released instead.
– I think that for a former top cross-country skier, she is not fast enough. On the shooting range, nothing has worked particularly well either, so I think you should give the younger ones, Tilda Johansson for example, a chance to drive the World Cup and gain experience.

The very fact that the ride times have not been very good for Stina Nilsson is something that Uschi Disl is pressing extra hard on.
– She was in 24th place in riding time today (during the start of the hunt), it’s not good enough, she says.
