The actor Bert-Åke Varg is dead

Bert-Åke Varg died on his way to a concert on New Year’s Eve, son Pontus Varg tells Hänt Extra newspaper. He was on his way to a concert at the Grand Hôtel on New Year’s Eve when he collapsed in the car outside his home on Östermalm in Stockholm. An ambulance was called but his life could not be saved.

– Somewhere in the middle of this sadness, it somehow feels comforting that he was allowed to leave earthly life in a nice tuxedo and shiny patent leather shoes, he tells the newspaper.

Versatile artist

Bert-Åke Varg was a versatile artist and actor who participated in a variety of productions. He has appeared in over 120 films and television series as an actor or as a voice and played in over 5000 theater performances.

He broke through already in the 50s, but then as a singer in the song “Kökspolka”. He has lent his voice to a large number of film dubbings – including The Jungle Book, Tintin and Asterix – and has had success in various theater performances, including “The Phantom of the Opera”, which he did for six years.

To the television audience, he became known as machinist Gustav Sjögren in the television series “Rederiet”. He has also played Pentti Varg, Ugglan Helge, machinist Gustav Sjögren and pajama banana B2.

As recently as last summer, Bert-Åke Varg spoke in P1. There he told, among other things, about growing up on the farm in Hörnefors in Västerbotten.
