The accident investigation of the February train accident in Greece

The investigation revealed several serious safety threats along the Greek rail network.

The investigation into the most serious rail traffic accident in the history of Greece has been completed. 57 people died in the accident that happened on February 28.

According to the report published on Thursday, the accident in which a passenger and freight train collided on the track between the capital Athens and the city of Thessaloniki was caused by several different reasons.

The 59-year-old station manager accused of the Greek train accident has admitted that he was partly to blame for the collision. According to the new report, the man should never have been appointed to the position of station manager, as he did not have sufficient training or qualifications for the position. In addition to the station master, three other people are accused of causing the train accident.

In addition to the insufficient training of the station manager, there was a fault in the automated traffic control system of the track section. If the system that sent the electronic signals had worked correctly, it would have prevented the accident.

According to the report, the problems regarding rail traffic in Greece are chronic, and are due to the fact that Greece has long favored investments in the development of other forms of movement, such as air traffic.

The investigation revealed several serious safety threats along the Greek rail network. In several localities, people working in critical positions were found to have insufficient training.
