However, a rumor persisted on the Internet until recently that made this film’s duration seem like a short film. Apparently there should be one somewhere 9 hour version of Avatar 1 exist! Now the director himself has spoken out and clearly stated why this version will never come.

James Cameron refutes rumors about the 9-hour version of Avatar

In an exclusive interview with Temple of Geek, the director addresses the rumor surrounding the alleged XXL version of the first Avatar part. Cameron makes it clear that A 9 hour long rough cut of the sci-fi film never existed. Instead, there was a total of 9 hours of material from which the final avatar versions were made.

Cameron says he would prefer “put a shotgun in your mouth” instead of making a 9-hour avatar version. His producer Jon Landau, who was present, would probably shoot him too if such a megalomaniac mammoth project were really planned, he claims.
