Was praised: “Still what drives me” • The rescue manager: “Inspired many”
Not everyone works with the same profession for half a century.
But 72-year-old Christer Svensson in Knäred has no plans to put away the rescue helmet.
– Interest has been there since childhood, says Christer Svensson in after five.
Christer Svensson made his first effort as a firefighter 50 years ago. Already at a young age, his fascination was awakened, and helping people in vulnerable situations has remained his driving force.
– To help and be there when people need help. That’s still what drives me, he says.
The colleagues celebrated the milestone
In connection with Christer celebrating his 50th anniversary, colleagues and friends gathered at the fire station in Knäred to pay tribute to him. The event was greater than he himself expected.
– It is the most powerful I have been involved with, except when my children were born. I didn’t think you could gather so many people, especially a Friday afternoon. Many also work, but they had taken time off to celebrate.
“Has inspired many”
Rescue chief Andreas Nilsson was one of those who participated during the celebration. He says that Christer has meant a lot to him as a person, but above all to the entire organization.
– He is really a pioneer who lives as he teaches and has inspired many colleagues over the years. We noticed this very clearly this afternoon at the fire station in Knäred. Above all, it is his positive way and the ability to always look ahead, says Andreas Nilsson.
