The 7-year-old hates summer time – wrote a letter to the prime minister

When 7-year-old Harry Pilblad suddenly got up an hour earlier this spring, he felt he had to take the matter to a higher level.
He thus sent a letter to the prime minister – and received a reply.
– I am super proud, says mother Ida Pilblad.

Twice a year we change our clocks, either we bring out the outdoor furniture or we take it back. But the issue is controversial and voices have been raised that the conversion should be abolished.

One who is tired of summertime is 7-year-old Harry Pilblad. He took up the matter and sent a letter to Sweden’s Prime Minister in which he wrote the following:

“Hello Ulf. Why do we have to change to summer time, it will be so hard to get up to school then. Can you decide so that we don’t need summer time.

In After five, he tells how he got the idea.

– I told my mother that I thought it was hard to get up in the morning and then she said: then you can write a letter to the prime minister, says Harry Pilblad.

The mother in the drama, Ida Pilblad, is proud of her son.

– It’s really funny that he dares to write and say what he thinks, she says.

The answer from Kristersson

In the end, the response from the prime minister was subdued, where he wrote that it is an interesting question and that many other countries are discussing the topic.

“We in Sweden have not yet decided whether we think it is a good idea to remove daylight saving time. Until then, we now have to take care and enjoy the bright evenings,” writes the prime minister in the replying letter.

The European Commission has made a proposal to abolish the time change, but no decisions have yet been made at EU level. If the time change were to be abolished by the EU, it would be up to each country’s government to decide whether it should be scrapped or remain. The Swedish government, as we learned, has also not taken a decision on whether the time change should be abolished.
