What makes the combat system so good? Black Desert relies on a very visually powerful, powerful action combat system in which you always have to target the enemies precisely and string together spectacular combos.

When attacking, the characters use a wide range of attacks and usually hit several targets at once. The abilities feel powerful and come with a real thunderstorm of effects. Enemies hit begin to stagger, which adds a certain amount of force to attacks and is also a lot of fun.

What does the game offer aside from combat? Black Desert is a sandbox MMORPG and therefore relies heavily on freedom:

  • There are some quests, but grinding mobs to level up is much quicker
  • There is no maximum level in the game, although starting at level 63 it takes an excruciatingly long time to reach further levels
  • The economy is completely free and determined by the players
  • There are eleven life skills, including gathering, fishing and cooking
  • You can build a network of NPC workers who grow raw materials, brew beer from them and then sell the beer to earn gold
  • There is housing and you can build your own ships
  • From level 50 onwards there is PvP in the open world
  • Most recently, PvP arenas and a five-player PvE dungeon were introduced

    • There are now also so-called season servers, which are particularly suitable for beginners or for leveling up new classes. These restart regularly, have no PvP and let you level up faster.

    However, if you want to play Black Desert, you have to buy the MMORPG once. There is no subscription.

    Who is Black Desert worth it for? Black Desert is aimed at sandbox fans who like to explore an open world and enjoy the combat system. A lot of things in BDO are connected to grind, such as producing the best equipment or the production chains for the economy.

    However, if you’re looking for a classic theme park MMORPG with an overarching story, dungeons and raids, you won’t be happy with Black Desert. Because there are no instanced dungeons for groups. You also have to constantly expect PvP, which not every type of player likes.

    A new expansion will also be released in 2023 with more story, cutscenes and boss fights, which at the same time requires less grinding. Ideal for players who like Black Desert because of the combat system, but are otherwise put off by it.
