Destiny 2 excels when it comes to great designs and, above all, attention to detail. You can equip your guardian with many different items and armor or use ornaments. But there are also really scary items in Bungie’s space shooter that I wish I had never gotten. Here are 5 of them.
Bungie’s space shooter has many armors and items designed in great detail. Bungie’s attention to detail knows no bounds.
Every player eventually develops his own personal look. This is made up of a wide variety of items that you have collected over the years and combined and shaded as you like. In the end, this results in a mixture of personal taste and prestige.
But there is also armor and items in Destiny 2 that are really so unusual and ugly-funny that I don’t want to withhold them from you. Here is my personal top list.
1. The “Ugly” Guy
“Yikes, where has the face slipped to here?”. Some guardians must have wondered that when they saw the Forsaken armor design. Destiny 2 Season 7’s “Streaking Horn” helmet indeed has a rather quirky look, as does the rest of the set, raising a few perplexing questions in the community:
Personally, I never had the “Stray Horn” armor in my inventory for a really long time. Instead, I smiled and thought about how much fun the designer group at Bungie must have had when they came up with this look. Which brings me to the next cracker.
2. The scary owl
Seasons and the DLCs will quickly grow a Warden’s collection. This is also the case with the expansion “Fortress of Shadows”.
As the new generation of Destiny 2 players, I was happy to be able to explore the moon with my Warlock in 2019.
As always, Bungie published a few images of the armor in advance, which should shorten the long wait until the release. But the first look at the new armor for my Warlock immediately made me a Titan.
While the Titan was still reasonably cool with the new Dreambane set, despite being a 70’s astronaut, the Hunter got the “stray meerkat” look. A golden jewelry headband, which could hide it, doesn’t help anymore.
To this day, I still have a hard time finding words about the Warlock. A couple of creepy owls must have posed for this armor and also left feathers.
Due to the campaign, you also had to wear all armor pieces in Shadowkeep for the quest to work. This caused me to have nightmares about opening the character menu in Shadowkeep, appropriately enough. Using an armor ornament was definitely mandatory with this face.
In addition, the longer you look at this three-eyed owl helmet, the more he grins at you. Feel free to try it. Speaking of eyes…
3. I have one, two, three, … eyes on you!
After Legendary Armor, we’re now going to cast one, two, three,…okay, more eyes on a very special Exotic Armor. Here, too, Destiny 2 not only has an enormous variety to offer, but has also created 108 quite idiosyncratic creations for all three classes to date.
The armor exotic I’m about to show you actually stared at me when I got it. We’re talking about the “Omnioculus” chest protector for hunters, which means something like “little eye”. The Exo came into play during Season 13 (Season of the Chosen).
Despite the many blinking eyes (they really do blink) you are at least more invisible than ever to the eyes of your opponents.
You have an unshaded choice of a pair of metallic, yellow Exo-Eyes or, with the Distorted Marrow ornament, the variant large, green “Flock Guckler”.
While the Exotic is pretty damn handy, especially when trying to avoid Savathun’s pesky moth bombs in the front-runner The Lightblade, it’s still a little spooky.
The eyes are constantly looking around and also twist, depending on the direction of view. And of course I don’t talk to my Exotic and ask it in amazement: “What are you looking at again?”.
4. The Alien Insect Hotel
As a Destiny 2 player, when you listen to Destiny 1 veterans, they often rave about the cool old Iron Banner armor. And yes, there are actually some pieces of Lord Saladin’s armor that are cool, such as the current Iron Trailblazer armor. She has a fiery armor glow.
New effect in Destiny 2 now lets your armor burn – Here’s how to get it
However, there’s also this little catch with a built-in alien insect hotel that’s like a trypophobic nightmare.
Somehow Bungie didn’t just forget an old Iron Lords rag in my Warden’s face. (Help, I can’t see anything!) When you look at your character from all sides, you ask yourself, “What is that growing on my hunter’s back? Is that still alive?“.
The gunslinger’s cool cloak in the Iron Trailblazer armor appears to be the former home of some alien bugs.
The abandoned “buildings” cannot be overlooked in the other classes either. Not that I have anything against oversized bugs. But this set, to me, is the ultimate proof that armor shouldn’t just sit around in Bungie’s basement for too long.
So if the armor doesn’t excite us, then let’s just get a cool ship from an exotic mission that takes several weeks of grinding.
5. A pile of space junk
Very often, Bungie hides not only armor in various missions, but also exotic sparrows or ships, as is currently the case in the “Vox Obscura” activity. Some are guaranteed to come from Triumphs, others are random drops.
That’s how it was in 2018 with the exotic mission “The Whisper”. There you could get what is probably the coolest ship in Destiny 2 to date, the “One Thousand Wings”. But only if you didn’t have a problem with daring timed and heroic jumps and stuck with it for three weeks.
The keepers rave about it to this day, although the ship cannot be shaded.
When “Zero Hour” dawned in 2019 and players there earned the “Perfected Outbreak” pulse rifle, there was of course again a heroic grind and a tricky puzzle to get hold of an exotic ship for three weeks.
So, inspired by the last cool ship capture in the Whisper, I mastered the configuration challenges of the “zero hour” over several weeks. To do this, I dared and jumped along the outer wall of the Last City on heels the size of a postage stamp, under time pressure.
When I was finally supposed to be rewarded, the vagabond gave me “scrap metal CF-717-91” with a grin. You could shade this ship, but it’s useless!
From all angles it is what the name already promises: just rusty scrap metal. That’s why I only park it behind the moon – just to the left, of course.
But at least, as the new owner of this rickety heap of junk, I could say: “My ship has already seen all parts of this universe!” … at least some of its individual parts and hope that it survives every new flight to the tower as a halfway complete set.
The only thing missing here is the sound of rattling and creaking metal when the ship starts to jump in orbit. Then this little scrap heap would be perfect.
Of course, my personal choice here is purely a matter of taste. Everyone can customize their Guardian’s appearance and choose the ship they like the most. Sometimes it’s fun to combine completely crazy items with each other. The best example of this is arguably the “Patrick Star” titan.
Nevertheless, all items shown here managed to do two things:
By the way, there are not only crazy and funny armor and ships in shooters, but also weapons. Including a unique grenade launcher from Destiny 2:
Now we want to hear your thoughts in the comments. What do you personally think is the coolest and the ugliest armor in Destiny 2? And which ship would you never fly? Did I hit the mark with my selection or do you find these things particularly successful in Destiny and equip them with pride?
