The 5 most expensive mounts you can buy for gold

Mounts can be expensive. Really expensive. We’ll show you the most expensive mounts you can buy for gold in World of Warcraft.

Mounts have been something very special since the vanilla version of World of Warcraft. Showing off with rare or particularly noble mounts has always been part of the DNA of Blizzard’s MMORPG.

The way you get mounts varies greatly. Some are rare drops from bosses, others are hidden behind complex puzzles, and others require you to put a lot of gold on the table to get them.

In this article we show you the 5 mounts with the most expensive purchase price that are currently available in World of Warcraft.

We are only referring to mounts that you can currently buy directly from the corresponding dealers. Mounts that can no longer be purchased are therefore not included in this list.

5th place: Rustbolt Resistor

Cost: 419,430 gold
Dealer: Stolen Royal Merchant Bot (Mechagon Island)

Impressive – but also quite loud.

Even back then, it was a bit disappointing for many fans that the big “Exalted” reward on the island of Mechagon is a mount that you have to buy for a lot of gold. The Rustbolt Resistor is a mount that should appeal to fans of mechanics in particular. Headlights, jets, Tesla coils – everything your heart desires. However, you also have to put up with the constant, somewhat penetrating sound of the mount.

Fun fact: The mount actually costs 524,288 gold. 524,288 is the number of bytes that fit into exactly 512 kb. Since Mechagon is basically based on computer technology and machines, this is probably a little joke that the developers were playing. However, since the price is reduced by the reputation bonus when you buy it, this joke is somewhat lost.

4th place: Palehide Direhorn

Cost: 500,000 gold
Dealer: Talutu (Zuldazar, Horde), The Cunning Nick (Tiragarde Sound, Alliance)

Quite a cute little thing for 500,000. (Image source: wowhead)

You’ll have to put half a million on the table if you want to be the proud (or poor) owner of a pale direhorn. It’s currently the most expensive “dinosaur” mount you can buy in World of Warcraft.

The model corresponds to the large riding dire horns that are mainly used by the Zandalari trolls in “Battle for Azeroth”.

The description of the mount says: “Light-skinned Terrorhorns are quite rare, which justifies the price.” – Whether that is really true is something everyone has to decide for themselves.
