Traditional crisscrossing obliges, the Julyites are preparing to unpack their suitcases while the Augustites are already busy preparing them. The goal? Not to forget anything, avoid excess baggage fees at the airport, or not to overload the car. A real headache! Let us rest assured, there is an infallible method that allows you to take only the bare necessities and pack your suitcase in record time. Explanations.

“Iand take it… just in case“. Who, with the exception of Marie Kondō, has never uttered this sentence while preparing their suitcase? It must be said that between mornings spent hiking, afternoons at the beach, and wild evenings, summer vacations are a challenge in terms of clothing. And that’s without counting on shoes, toiletry bags, and other accessories or objects that we judge – at the time – to be essential. Choices that are not without consequences on the weight of the suitcase, or even on the number of bags taken to your vacation spot, to end up using only a quarter of your belongings.

To avoid paying extra fees at the airport or unnecessarily cluttering up your car, the 5-4-3-2-1 method can be as effective as it is judicious, provided you make a few concessions. Because as useful as it is, this technique requires making choices and depriving yourself of certain clothes and accessories. To save as much space (and lightness) as possible, the 5-4-3-2-1 method consists of making do with five tops (tops, T-shirts, tank tops, shirts, etc.), four bottoms (shorts, pants, skirts), three dresses and three pairs of shoes, two swimsuits and two bags, and a hat (and a pair of sunglasses).

    Avoid the superfluous

This technique, popularized several years ago by Geneva Vanderzeil, allows you to focus on the essentials, but you should of course add underwear and a toiletry bag, at a minimum. Here again, several choices are available to you depending on the accommodation booked. For example, it is possible to reduce the quantity of underwear if you have the possibility of washing them on site, or to forget about your pool and beach towel, or even your shower gel and shampoo, if the hotel provides them.

The same goes for the toiletry bag. Depending on where you live, it is entirely possible to buy hygiene products, cosmetics, sun creams, and other makeup on site, just to save a little more space in your suitcase. Note, however, that this ingenious method is more appropriate for short stays, of ten days maximum, but you can adapt it to the length of your vacation, always taking care to limit yourself. One thing is sure, it will help you to easily close your suitcase and travel (more) light.
