3rd place: Odin: Valhalla Rising
Setting: Vikings | developer: Lionheart Games | platform: PC, Mobile | release date: end of 2023 | model: Free2Play | votes: 539 (9%)
What kind of game is this? Odin: Valhalla Rising is a Korean MMORPG set in a world full of Vikings and Norse mythology. Well-known figures such as Odin or Thor should appear in it, as well as the continents Midgard, Jötunheim, Nidawellir and Albenheim.
You choose one of 4 classes: rogue, sorceress, priest or warrior. Then you explore the open game world, which should offer many adventures. Climbing, swimming, horseback riding and even flying should be possible.
You experience dungeons within a classic Holy Trinity of DD, tank and healer.
Graphically, Odin: Valhalla Rising looks promising, but you can tell from the MMORPG that the user interface is optimized for mobile. Also typical for mobile MMORPGs: There will be autoplay.
Odin: Valhalla Rising was very successful when it was released in Korea, where it has been online since 2021. It is said to have grossed €11 million in 2 days.
Who is it interesting for? The MMORPG is aimed at fans of mobile MMORPGs or PC players who have no problem with the corresponding UI. So if you’re looking for an MMORPG that takes care of annoying content by itself, you’ve come to the right place.
In addition, due to the setting, it is suitable for friends of Norse mythology and Vikings.
2nd place: Blue Protocol
Setting: Anime/Sci Fi | developer: Bandai Namco | platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox | release date: Second half of 2023 | model: Free2Play | votes: 1,178 (19%)
What kind of game is this? Blue Protocol is a theme park MMORPG with nice anime graphics. It is developed by Bandai Namco using Unreal Engine 4. Amazon assumes the role of publisher for us.
You create a character and must travel to an unknown world to save your planet Regnas from destruction. You often do time travel.
Players can expect an action-packed combat system in which you can dodge, aim and combo. The focus is on PvE, because there will be no PvP. You complete solo content or dungeons for up to 6 players. Raids will also be added later in the game.
Equipment can drop, but that happens very rarely. Most of the time you farm certain materials with which you then produce your equipment yourself. This is how the crafting system works.
In addition, there are various pets and mounts, the Imajinns.
Who is it interesting for? Blue Protocol is aimed at fans of anime MMORPGs who want to experience a deep story with exciting combat. Anyone who plays Genshin Impact or Tower of Fantasy should definitely take a look at the MMORPG.
1st place: Throne and Liberty
Setting: Fantasy | developer: NCSoft | platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox | release date: First half of 2023 | model: Unknown | votes: 1,951 (31%)
What kind of game is this? Throne and Liberty is the biggest hope in MMORPG heaven for 2023. It’s set on an open world that you can explore and move around in a variety of ways – like transforming into an aquatic or flying animal. There should be no loading screens.
The detailed graphics and the action-packed combat system are striking. So far, the gameplay has mainly shown huge battles around fortresses. They should play an important role, but the developers also promise enough content for PvE players.
Throne and Liberty does not have fixed classes. Instead, it lets you dictate your playstyle through the weapons you equip. Within the fight you can then switch between 2 sets, similar to New World.
Who is it interesting for? Throne and Liberty is aimed at fans of big MMORPGs who don’t want to miss the next AAA title. If you’re looking for action-packed battles with PvP and PvE and also value attractive graphics, you’ve definitely come to the right place.
