2024 brought back many new anime. We’ll show you the 3 best series of the year that everyone should have seen – regardless of whether they’re an anime fan or not.

Anime fans have it pretty good right now. The last few years have produced a lot of great series and the year 2024 is no exception. MeinMMO demon Cortyn takes a look at the 3 best series of the year – based on personal selection.

Oshi no Ko – Season 2

Alternative names: Oshi no Ko: My Star, My*Star, My Star
Genre: Mystery, drama, romance
Number of episodes: 13
Reviews: 8.61 / 10 (myanimelist), 8.3 / 10 (IMDb)
Streaming provider: Amazon Prime, Akiba Pass TV (purchase)

For me, Oshi no Ko was already one of the best anime I’ve ever seen in 2023 – and the second season just took it up a notch.

Aqua and Ruby are the children of the long-murdered music star Ai and are now college-aged. They work part-time as an actor or musician and strive for a career – but for very different reasons.

Above all, Ruby wants to emulate her mother so that she can become a famous idol like her and one day perform on the big stage.

Aqua, on the other hand, wants to go into show business to find his mother’s murderer and hunt him down himself.

The second season largely revolves around a large theater performance, which is so grandiose in its implementation that, despite the anime look, you often have the impression that you are sitting in the audience yourself. I have already explained in detail why this works so wonderfully in this article.

In the second season, Oshi no Ko delves more into the backgrounds and emotional worlds of the various protagonists (and some supporting characters), while at the same time more mysteries surrounding the murder of Ai and her murderers are gradually uncovered.

However – I think this goes without saying – you should definitely have seen the first season to be able to understand the plot. But then Oshi no Ko is a wild, emotional ride, with the final episodes in particular feeling like multiple stabs straight to the heart. But somehow… good. You understand.
