Since 2007, the adrenaline-packed Transformers films have been conquering the big screen in live-action guise. However, the sci-fi franchise is not quite as sophisticated as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On the contrary: the mythology can be bent at will. Anyone looking for a film series with continuity is in vain here.
The first three films were held together to some extent by Shia LaBeouf as the lead actor. After that, Mark Wahlberg took charge for two parts before saying goodbye together with director Michael Bay. Transformers 5: The Last Knight is the last part of the Bay era. This was followed by a soft reboot.
Chaotic sci-fi series: Transformers returns with Rise of the Beasts
Ever since Bay left the franchise, Transformers has been trying to reinvent itself. The first try took place in December 2018 when Bumblebee hit theaters. Set in the 1980s, the backstory of the eponymous Autobot is told, while Charlie, played by Hailee Steinfeld, serves as the human protagonist. However, the film was not successful enough to continue.
Now we experience it second tryto bring a breath of fresh air into the series. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts takes us back to the 1990s and introduces us to an all-new lead in Anthony Ramos, while familiar Autobots like Optimus Prime return. At the June 8, 2023 the seventh Transformers film hit theaters. We’re excited to see if he can lead the franchise into the future.
