The Three Musketeers fights are impressive across the board

Alexandre Dumas’ adventure novel The Three Musketeers * has been adapted into films and series many times. The two-part new edition by Martin Bourboulon still manages to gain new, cutting-edge facets from the remake.

As an adventure blockbuster full of great images and thrilling fights Part 1 is reminiscent of a French Pirates of the Caribbean, before Part 2 features more impressive battles and character revelations. Costumes, sets and remarkably beautiful landscapes and castles give the films a feeling of grandeur, allowing them to easily compete with Hollywood, while the well-rounded stars give their characters the necessary depth.

What is particularly impressive in the adventure is the staging of the fights. From the sword duel to the crouched gunfight to the fist fight, the camera rushes shoulder to shoulder with the heroes through the forest, jumps off cliffs and throws themselves into the fire. By eliminating cuts in these scenes, the Musketeer double gets one breathless immediacywhich inevitably draws us as an audience into the fast-paced action.
