We are fast approaching the end of the year and with it the time of the top list reviews of the best series of the year. We don’t want to keep you waiting that long, because in the midst of the enormous mass of innovations, many small highlights that deserve more attention are forgotten far too quickly. That’s why we have you 20 insider tips for Netflix, Amazon and Co. selected that most series enthusiasts had not yet had on their screens.

For this ranking we used the data from the Moviepilot community best rated to date series of the year looked at, which have less than 100 ratings and are therefore classified as insider tips. We have neglected documentaries and reality shows in this overview.

The best secret series tips 8th place: The Legend of Vox Machina

From all new fantasy series sets The Legend of Vox Machina certainly the crudest and bloodiest humor to the day. Based on the hit Critical Role D&D campaign, the animated series follows a group of budding heroes as they take on various quests. Thanks to the excellent chemistry of the characters and the lovingly teasing wit, it is easy to want to become part of this well-rehearsed fantasy family.

In the French Netflix mystery series Lea’s seven lives the main character Léa awakens one day in the 1990s. Not only has she traveled two decades into the past, she is also suddenly in the body of a young man. In order to prevent his later death, she has to change her body several times from now on. This results in an exciting genre mix of time travel, body swapping, young adult drama and crime thriller.

The animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park is a supernatural, creepy and above all funny adventure fun around the haunted house attraction of an amusement park. The charming and extremely funny Swiss cop comedy Tschugger finally arrived in Germany in 2022. She takes us to the canton of Valais, where time seems to have stood still in the 80s and nothing exciting ever happens for the policeman and action film fan Bax. When he senses an explosive case involving two cannabis smugglers, he promptly involves his Zurich intern, Schmetterling, in an undercover mission, which of course soon escalates. There are now 2 seasons with 5 episodes each.

The mix of RomCom and slice-of-life experiences was able to inspire many anime fans with the authentic representation of fan culture and cosplay.

The best secret series tips 3rd place: Spy x Family

One of the biggest anime hypes of the year is spy comedy Spy x Family, which is a collaboration between renowned animation studios CloverWorks (The Promised Neverland) and Wit Studio (Attack on Titan). Set in a fictional Cold War, top spy Twilight is sent on a secret mission to Berlin, the capital of Ostania.

To do this, he must first start a fake family. He adopts an orphan girl with telepathic powers and marries an assassin. Spy x Family is incredibly creative, varied and extremely funny and inspires with great animations and a fantastic soundtrack.

The South Korean drama series Extraordinary Attorney Woo is actually no longer an insider tip. After all, it ranks 6th among the most watched non-English language Netflix series. Here we follow the adventures of neurodivergent and genius lawyer Woo Young-woo, who has a photographic memory and thus solves various cases in unique and unusual ways. The missing German dubbed version shouldn’t be an obstacle to giving this loving feel-good series a chance.

With Pachinko – A simple life beautiful series poetry awaits you. Epic and intimate at the same time, the trilingual series epic unfolds the four-generation family history of the Korean Sunja, who takes us from Korea in the 1910s to Japan in the 1980s.

Pachinko is a series about life, survival, home and origin. She is a stirring portrait of a generation of people treated as “strangers” everywhere. And as the highest-rated series of the year so far, Pachinko definitely deserves even more attention.
