– I will always remember this match. It is difficult to take in, says Schröder to SVT Sport from the lawn at the FC Twente Stadium in Enschede.
Jennifer Falk made a qualified save when she tipped out a shot from the right side in the 95th minute and Häcken was able to hold off in the tumultuous final minutes. The entire Häcken camp gathered at Falk’s penalty area to celebrate while the Twente players had blank stares.
– It wasn’t the best match I played and even though there are many important matches now, we should probably have time to celebrate a little, says Schröder.
It looked tough for an hour. Twente led 1-0 and Häcken had only won 2-2 from the home meeting where important national team cog Elin Rubensson was injured and misses the important autumn matches.
Hecke’s acknowledgment came after an hour
After an hour, Häcken equalized at 1-1 and a teenager introduced himself to the European audience. 16-year-old Felicia Schröder rushed in the middle and released the ball to Anna Anvegård on the left side. Anvegård cleared the ball with his left foot and cut in the equalizer with his right.
Just four minutes later, it was time for Anvegård to invite again. She found Schröder deep, where the ball was easily put into the goal by the talent for 2-1.
Draw on Friday
– It’s a great ball from Anna. She is a skilled player with a good understanding of the game so it’s just a matter of putting it in, says Schröder.
Twente’s first-half lead came through a quick conversion. From the left wing, the ball was played into the middle to Leonie Vliek, who went straight to the half volley and made it 1-0.
On Friday, 16 teams will be drawn into four groups.
