Admittedly, the majority of the association’s members, like Valent and de Ruijter, are men between 40 and 60 years old. But more and more young people are also taking up pinball, De Ruijter sees. They discover the game on the PlayStation or iPad. “Then they come to an arcade hall and suddenly see: hey, there is also a real cupboard. That’s a different story.” The number 1 in the world rankings is 18 years old. Not exactly an “old, gray hippie,” says De Ruijter, laughing.
