The 15 biggest series highlights that will start on Netflix, Amazon & Co. in 2023

In August, two of the biggest series blockbusters of the summer start with Star Wars: Ahsoka on Disney+ and One Piece on Netflix. But what does the series year have to offer in terms of novelties apart from new seasons of well-known series? Despite the double strike in Hollywood, you can look forward to some exciting highlights in the coming months.

We took a closer look at the starting lists of the streaming services and TV stations and present you with 15 new series highlights in this list later this year on Netflix, Amazon and Co. you can see. In addition to series offshoots of hits such as The Walking Dead, Money Heist and The Boys or new stories from the MCU, there is a lot to discover.

1. Series Highlight 2023: All the Light We Can’t See (Netflix)

The war drama based on Anthony Doerr tells the story of the blind teenager Marie-Laure, who meets the German soldier Werner in occupied France. The four-part miniseries is directed by Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy.

2nd series highlight 2023: Berlin (Netflix)

Two years after the end of the Heist hit Money Heist, fan favorite Berlin is getting its own prequel series. In this, the robber known as Andrés de Fonollosa leads his own gang of thieves several years before the attack on the Spanish banknote printing works, with which he carries out spectacular robberies.

3. Series highlight 2023: Bodies (Netflix)

One of the most ambitious and exciting crime formats of the year awaits us with Bodies. Because here a mysterious series of murders in London employs four different investigators over a period of 150 years. The case stretches from Victorian London in the 1890s to the post-techno apocalypse of 2050.

4. Series highlight 2023: The Changeling (Apple TV+)

In the adaptation of Victor LaValle’s novel of the same name, an interesting mix of horror and urban fairy tales awaits us, starring Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield. He plays a young father who has to cope with an unimaginable loss when his wife unexpectedly kills their child and disappears without a trace.

5. Series highlight 2023: The Continental (Amazon)

The action series John Wick will be expanded by a prequel series in the fall. This illuminates the history of the later Continental manager Winston Scott. In the 1970s, he embarks on a deadly foray into New York’s underworld. The miniseries consists of three feature-length episodes and will be shown in Germany on Amazon Prime Video.

6. Series highlight 2023: Echo (Disney+)

The MCU dares an interesting experiment with the Hawkeye spin-off Echo: The series will be published as a binge release on November 29th on Disney +. The protagonist is deaf fighter Maya Lopez, who flees to Oklahoma while exploring her past and Native American roots. There is also a reunion with the kingpin Wilson Fisk and Daredevil.

7. Series highlight 2023: A question of chemistry (Apple TV+)

Bonnie Garmus’s novel A Question of Chemistry has remained a tenacious hit on bestseller lists since it was first published. The series adaptation of the celebrated original about a woman named Elizabeth Zott, who actually wanted to be a chemist in the 1960s and ended up in a Kochsow in front of the camera, is already starting in October. The casting of Brie Larson in her first series lead role in 12 years is particularly exciting.

8. Series Highlight 2023: Fall of the House of Usher (Netflix)

Mike Flanagan has been a guarantor of spooky, emotionally jarring, and damn good horror shows on Netflix for years. This era will now come to an end in 2023 with a final series, as the horror master is now working with Amazon. Inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe, The Fall of the House of Usher tells of family, madness and decay. Many well-known stars of the “Flanaverse” are gathered.

9th series highlight 2023: Fellow Travelers (Showtime)

The Showtime miniseries Fellow Travelers follows the decade-spanning love story of two disparate men who meet in Washington during the McCarthy era. Tim Laughlin and Hawkins Fuller meet again during the Vietnam protests of the 1960s, in the 1970s at the time of drugs and hedonism, and later in the 1980s during the AIDS crisis.

10. Series highlight 2023: Generation V (Amazon)

The first live-action spin-off from Amazon superhero satire The Boys shortens the long wait for Season 4. It focuses on young supes who are being trained to be the stars of tomorrow at Godolkin University and who have to go head-to-head in brutal competitions. Expect plenty of new gory excesses and some cameo appearances from well-known The Boys characters.

11. Series Highlight 2023: Dear Child (Netflix)

The six-part German miniseries adapts Romy Hausmann’s bestselling thriller Liebes Kind. The story begins where other thrillers end: a young woman named Lena and two children live in captivity in an isolated house. Lena manages to escape. But the nightmare doesn’t seem to want to end for her afterwards.

12. Series highlight 2023: Masters of the Air (Apple TV+)

One of the most exciting series projects from Apple should finally start this year. Following Band of Brothers and The Pacific, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks are producing the next WWII epic, this time dedicated to the stories of the US Air Force’s so-called Bomber Boys during WWII.

13. Series Highlight 2023: Mr & Mrs Smith (Amazon)

The 2005 action comedy starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt is rebooting as an Amazon series. This time Donal Glover and Maya Erskine slip into the role of the agent couple with marital problems and an exciting job at a mysterious spy agency.

14th series highlight 2023: Obliterated (Netflix)

While Cobra Kai fans are eagerly awaiting Season 6 (the one not yet ordered), the creators of the martial arts series have not been idle and have already filmed a new Netflix series. Obliterated is exciting action-fun about a Special Forces team who must stop a terrorist attack after a night out with Hangover in Las Vegas.

15. Series Highlight 2023: The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon (AMC)

After The Walking Dead ends, Daryl Dixon embarks on an adventurous journey through post-apocalyptic France, from Marseille to beneath the crumbling Eiffel Tower in Paris, in his own spin-off series. After almost 13 years, the effects of the zombie apocalypse outside of the USA are being researched for the first time. French vineyards and castles are a refreshing change from the forests of Virginia.

For all series listed here, the start this year is almost certain. Nevertheless, due to the current double strike, unforeseen changes may occur. Incomplete post-synchronization, fear of the stars not applying for the series or the retention of series for the 2024 release plan could be reasons for short-term postponements.
