The 10 most powerful Gryffindors of all time in the power ranking

No other Hogwarts house is as well-known and popular as Gryffindor. No wonder, after all, it is the house of Harry Potter himself. But which witches and wizards were actually in Gryffindor? And who was most powerful?

What does Gryffindor stand for? Gryffindors are best known for traits such as courage, bravery, boldness, chivalry and determination. Further information in the profile:

  • House colors: Scarlet and gold
  • Animal: Lion
  • House spirit: The “Almost Headless Nick”
  • Common room: On the seventh floor, behind the portrait of the fat lady
  • In the words of the Sorting Hat:

Maybe you’re Gryffindors, says your old hat,

because there, as we know, bravery and courage reign.

Spoiler alert: To explain the ranking, various events from films and books are spoiled.

    10th place: Molly Weasley

We start this ranking with someone who would probably (wrongly) be underestimated at first glance. Molly Weasley is best known as a loving mother and wife.

But it is precisely this love for her family – to which she basically includes Harry – that makes her strong. She would do anything to protect her. When Bellatrix Lestrange dares to threaten Molly’s daughter Ginny during the Battle of Hogwarts, a duel ensues.

Molly manages to defeat the feared Death Eater and proves that she is not to be trifled with.

    9th place: James Potter

Harry and his father, James Potter, are often compared to each other. They not only share unruly hair, but also their courage, their loyalty and their penchant for misdeeds.

Due to his early death, we don’t see too much of James Potter in books and films. However, he was an extremely skilled wizard. He managed to become an Animagus at a young age – a difficult and risky process.

He was also instrumental in the creation of the Marauder’s Map. This map of Hogwarts was so powerful that it could even detect, display, and track people under an invisibility cloak or with a concealed identity. Creating such an artifact certainly required some magical skill.

Additionally, James was a member of the original Order of the Phoenix, where he fought against Lord Voldemort’s first reign of terror. He was probably also a very skilled duelist and skilled in defensive magic.

    8th place: Remus Lupin

Remus Lupine was probably one of the best teachers Harry ever had. On the one hand, he was very thoughtful and empathetic. Because as a werewolf, he knew exactly what it felt like to be excluded.

On the other hand, he himself was extremely talented and well-read, especially in the subject “Defense Against the Dark Arts”, which he later also taught.

He was always the intelligent and sensible one among his friends, the “Marauders”. Dumbledore also recognized this and made Lupine a prefect in the hope that he could rein in his friends a bit.

Like James and the other Marauders, he was involved in the creation of the Marauder’s Map and a member of the Order of the Phoenix.
