The PlayStation 4 is still a potent console in 2023, and even the release of the PS5 cannot change that. MeinMMO editor Maik Schneider therefore lists 10 graphics hits on the PS4 that are worth a look.
How was this list compiled? The PS4 generation was my peak on the Sony console. I had enough time and money for games, no PC and many active players.
The PS4 was my console.
That’s why I feel competent enough to present you with a list of the most beautiful games on the PS4 – preferably with the PS4 Pro. It’s not just about the technology for me, but also about the fantastic scenes and experiences that the games offer you.
Get ready to push your PS4 jet to the limit. For each game you will find a trailer and a short description here. The order is not a ranking.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Uncharted 4 rakes in a brutal 93 points on Metacritic and is considered one of the best endings in a video game series (via metacritic.com). In the third person, you experience an exciting adventure with shooter elements all about the thief Nathan Drake, which will captivate you for hours and offer great prospects.
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Whether Zero Dawn or Forbidden West: The Horizon series offers beautiful graphics. In interaction with the crazy and fresh setting in the most diverse biomes, regular amazement is guaranteed.
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima sends you to feudal Japan, year 1274. The Mongols conquer your homeland and you are called upon to restore peace as one of the last samurai. Expect rambunctious sword fights that deliver a relay race with outstanding animations.
The Witcher: Wild Hunt
The Witcher is huge, looks amazing and never fails to surprise with what it offers visually. Endless details, diverse shapes and varied landscapes – an adventure that I can recommend to every gamer.
Red Dead Redemption 2
A playable western with a focus on reality. The open world offers a lot to discover, many stories of the people of that time stimulate thought and in terms of detail richness it can adorn itself with the title “horse testicles”.
Last of Us Part II
In The Last of Us: Part 2, you visit a desolate world that disappeared years ago. A disease has created zombie-like beings and the remnants of humanity are struggling to survive. Nature has reclaimed many parts of the world, which always makes for scenes worth seeing.
God of War
As with Horizon, the two God of War titles look fantastic after switching to more RPG-like gameplay. Stunning visuals in a mythological setting and constant action make God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök intense experiences.
Elden ring
The so-called “Soulslike” games are abnormally difficult action RPGs with a dark setting. Elden Ring ventures into an open world for the first time and was a huge hit in 2022. It’s bursting with detail and leaves much of the storytelling to the environment, giving the visuals a very special touch.
Final Fantasy 7: Remake
Final Fantasy 7 was a milestone in role-playing history and made everyone’s eyes light up in the 90s with its technical innovations. The first part of the remake can definitely keep up and is based on the fabulous pictures that caused amazement even back then.
Death Stranding
The title is considered a “walking simulator” and not without reason. But the story is appealing in a fascinating way, the characters are engaging, the cutscenes are amazing. Colleague Marie Friske even wrote her master’s thesis about it. A look into the destroyed world can be worthwhile.
Those were my biggest graphics highlights on the PS4. I would like to open another category with “Honorable Mentions” – write in the comments which games you would see there.
