The child in the driver’s seat was in the vehicle with his 11-year-old sister. The children were stopped in Alachua, hundreds of miles from where their mother had filed a missing person report a few days earlier. Police said the duo decided to escape after their mother confiscated their electronic devices.

THEY WERE FOUND 320 KILOMETERS FROM THEIR HOMES

“Our officers were surprised to see the 10-year-old male driver get out of the vehicle with his older sister,” the police said in a statement.

It was understood that their mother in the city of North Port, 320 kilometers away from Alachua, filed a missing person report for the children who got out of the stopped vehicle at around 4 in the morning.

Police stated that the children were angry with their mothers for confiscating their electronic devices. It was noted that the mother made this decision on the grounds that they did not use the devices properly.

Police emphasized that there was no reason to believe that the children were being mistreated at home.

After a three-hour drive, the mother reached Alachua and picked up her children.

“Our detectives interviewed the mother at length. It was clear that she was doing her best to raise her two young children and was very receptive to recommendations to get help,” police said.
