The Swedish men’s national team has gathered in Åre for a pre-season camp.
But then the biggest star name in William Poromaa is missing.
– It has been noisy ever since May, national team coach Lars Ljung admits to Expressen.
Just like last year, the Swedish men’s cross-country ski team gathers for a bare-ground camp in Åre before midsummer. Then tough running sessions around Åreskutan await on the training schedule for the pre-season camp.
Poromaa is missing
But it is remarkable that the national skiing team’s big star names on the men’s side are completely missing. Then William Poromaa did not follow the national team colleagues at all, but remained at home in Sundsvall.

Now the reason behind the decision is revealed and it is a new nightmare for the 23-year-old. Since “Wille” has had problems with a knee.
– We chose that William would remain at home. This is a camp where we run a lot, says the national team coach Lars Ljung to Expressen.
– It is a so-called runner’s knee, and we think it has come after cycling training in the spring. The fact that he sat a little too low when cycling and thus put a load on the knee is a little wrong. It has been a bit messy with the knee ever since May – and at the end it has gotten worse.
Williams setback
Poromaa had a lot of problems last season and therefore failed to live up to the high expectations for him. Now even the summer is affected by his new problem and it causes complications for the training during the pre-season.
– We have had to make some adjustments, the running is gone. But he can roller ski and also go uphill on the roller ski slope, says Ljung, who is also Poromaa’s personal trainer, in the interview.

At the moment, it is difficult to say when William Poromaa can go out on a run again. The hope is that he will be able to run properly in the autumn again and of course the WC bronze hero thinks it is difficult.
– Yes it is. He would have liked to have been with us here in Åre. He’s a guy who likes to run, too. Now his training becomes a little more monotonous, says trainer Lars Ljung.

In addition to Poromaa, the trio is also missing Anton Grahn, Leo Johansson and Emil Danielsson at the preseason camp. There, the reason is colds on all three.
