For over 90 years we have celebrated our fathers in Sweden. The tradition was imported from the United States where the day was first celebrated on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington state.

The custom came to Sweden in 1931. At first the day was celebrated in June, but it turned out to be too close to Mother’s Day. That is why fathers’ own day had to be moved and it is now celebrated on the second Sunday in November.
