Criticism of the Bachelorette candidates: What the fans say

Anyone who looked closely at the introduction of the candidates will have noticed one thing: There are three times more men than women in the new Bachelorette cast. In a format that has made it its mission to portray diversity, this situation is a sore spot. The community reacted critically when RTL introduced the unevenly distributed cast. One user on Instagram sums it up: “Why is the number of women/men not equal?”

One user can’t resist making a sarcastic comment: “The proportion of women in management positions is as low as in any other management level.”

Other voices are more positive. Many people noticed that some of the candidates are no longer very young. One user is happy about more mature participants: “I’m glad that this time it’s not twenty 20-year-olds with the life experience of a mayfly.”

RTL defends itself: This is what the broadcaster says about the fans’ accusations

The broadcaster rejects the criticism that the casting selection deliberately discriminated against women. Instead, RTL wrote a less than convincing statement in the Instagram comments:

The gender of the candidates is not the decisive criterion for their participation, but rather their personality and their compatibility with the Bachelorette – let the season surprise you!

An angry user justifiably asks the counter question why only 5 women supposedly fulfilled these requirements:

So those who identify as female and have applied have little or no personality? It is simply not balanced and that’s uncool for a season that’s supposed to represent and make bi people visible. TV & Broadcast: How to watch “The Bachelorette”
