That’s why politicians talk so little about saving electricity

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

If Europe reduces its electricity consumption by 5 percent, the prices in southern Sweden would decrease the fastest and land at roughly the same price level as autumn 2021, i.e. the same level as before the Ukraine war and before electricity production ended up at the top of the agenda.

This is according to the report “Impact on electricity prices of added generation in southern Sweden” from the research company Energiforsk. Nevertheless, few politicians talk about Swedes’ opportunities, and responsibility, to reduce their electricity consumption.

– The citizens have been treated more and more as if they were incapable of change unless they are bribed to do so, and that has not always been the case, says Maria Wolrath-Söderberg.

No Swedish campaigns for reduced electricity use

During the 50s, 60s and 70s, various Swedish campaigns for reduced electricity use came and went when it was really needed. And all over Europe, government “energy-saving campaigns” aimed at the general public are already underway before the coming winter.

But some such are not expected to appear in Sweden and in a survey SVT has made no parties in favor of any kind of mandatory measures for reduced electricity use.

Hear researcher Maria Wolrath-Söderberg why campaigning for energy efficiency is not so popular with politicians, but why it should be, in the video above.
