That’s why Mark Harmon didn’t want to know what would happen to Gibbs in NCIS

Thats why Mark Harmon didnt want to know what would

From 2003, Mark Harmon played Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS until his departure three years ago. With the leading role, he also became one of the highest paid TV stars ever. The actor also kept one thing to the end: He never wanted to know anything about the development of his character in advance. There was a special reason for this.

Mark Harmon always wanted to play Gibbs in NCIS with an open mind

Back in 2009, the star spoke to TV Fanatic about how he never wanted to know in which direction Gibbs would develop in NCIS:

I never asked for it. For me it is like loading it back. It may be like like trying to work backwards. I don’t know, I’ve never done that here before. I certainly don’t know how they would react. But I really don’t want to know.

For Harmon, knowing his character’s future in advance would not have been helpful, so he would have had to play Gibbs with foreknowledge and, in his view, sometimes go back to a certain point from which the character might have already moved away.
