That’s why I quit social media

Kristallen winner and TV4 profile Pär Lernström left social media completely seven years ago.
Now he tells why.
– It became like a job, says Pär Lernström in Efter fem.

It was an emotional Pär who received the year’s crystal for the year’s male presenter earlier last fall. There were both tears and an emotional speech of thanks was delivered to the children. But there was no post from Pär on social media about the win, because there he shines with his absence since seven years ago.

For me it became like a job. I actively worked on the small posts and thought it was very important. Then I could sit afterwards and think “why do I think this is so important?”, says Pär Lernström in Efter fem.

That’s how Pär reasoned before he decided to shut down his social media accounts seven years ago. And the reason was perhaps that behind the professional presenter there is a rather tender soul.

I haven’t thought along those lines myself, but I don’t think it’s entirely wrong.

European Football Championship: “It was quite tough”

This summer, TV4 chose to go with two presenters for the soccer EC, Frida Nordstrand and Pär Lernström. And already after the first broadcasts, he realized that it was not entirely easy to go from the world of entertainment into the world of football.

As a middle-aged white man who has done his job for quite some time, you rarely get criticism. It was quite tough for me. I woke up after the first broadcasts and wondered why I was doing this at all, says Pär and then tells us that it got better and better after the broadcasts went on.

The cliché that is true

The criticism against Pär came primarily from football enthusiasts who associated Lernström with Idol, but also from Alex Schulman who said in his podcast that “it seems he doesn’t care”. And now in retrospect, he can look back on the EC summer with new eyes.

When you get out of that later, it’s not bad. There is some kind of super-cliché in that you are still strengthened by it, says Pär Lernström.
