The most likely scenario is that the relationship between China and Russia continues to develop positively – in a kind of status quo, says Hugo von Essen, who is an analyst at the Center for Eastern European Studies.
This means that there will still be limitations in how far the countries are willing to cooperate, he says.
– For example, you don’t trust each other, you are not willing to join a military alliance and China is not willing to clearly and openly violate the Western world’s sanctions against Russia.
