But Kevin Prince Boateng thought otherwise.
He was thinking of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
According to many, Lionel Messi is the best football player of all time, and it is above all a common opinion in Barcelona. It was where the little wizard played during large parts of his career, and where he really cemented his place in football history.

Lionel Messi has won everything that can be won with Barcelona and he has won the Ballon d’Or, the prize as the world’s best football player, a handful of times. He is the club’s greatest of all time – without a doubt – and if you played with him in the club, it should be everyone’s opinion.
It was thus really shocking when the star Kevin Prince Boateng got a question from Barcelona’s own TV channel a few years ago, about who he considers to be the best player he played with. Boateng then played in Barcelona, and many expected that there would only be one answer.
Tribute to Zlatan
But instead he replied, to everyone’s great surprise:
– Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Of course, the statement made headlines around the world – one of Lionel Messi’s teammates in Barcelona, who nobbed him? But perhaps there were explanations beyond that, of course, it was a glorious tribute to Zlatan.
Kevin Prince Boateng were teammates already during Zlatan’s first stay in Milan, and they then became friends. A few months before the above-mentioned interview, Boateng had also said, in connection with his presentation to Barcelona, that Messi is not only the best in the world, but “in this world and in all worlds”.
