“That changes Diablo 4 completely”

With Season 4 came numerous changes to Diablo 4. One of the most important concerns the aspects and the code of power. Players are excited about it and are happy about empty compartments in their chests.

Season 4 has been live in Diablo 4 since May 14th and is exciting many players with the new features. The entire loot system has been overhauled, item drops are clearer and more rewarding. One of the most important changes relates to the aspects on items.

Previously, players collected aspects and items with matching aspects in their chests:

  • the aspects themselves if you want to use them in other items
  • Items with good aspects, in case you want to extract them and then use them in other items
  • This resulted in blocked and confusing chest spaces. This has changed with Season 4.

What have the developers changed? The biggest and most important change is in the loot system: There are now fewer but better affixes and you can customize items via crafting. Instead of having to extract affixes, you use legendarys and the aspects automatically move into the codex of power. The best variant that has been decomposed so far is always saved instead of just using the low basic value.

This excites Diablo 4 players because they have been complaining about a lack of space ever since Diablo 4 was released. In between, the developers have revised items to allow for more space, for example by causing gems to fall as fragments that do not appear in the inventory.

The revision is an absolute “game changer”

How does the community react? Players are pleased that the aspects when dismantling items are now transferred directly to the Code of Power. On Reddit, user “angry_dingo” wrote on May 15th that no longer having to worry about aspects reduces 80% of the problems.

    In his post he writes:

Collecting aspects was a pain and took up chest space. Managing aspects was one of the worst things about Diablo, and even with the very rudimentary search function it took far too long. Then forcing players to carry around the Aspects they wanted to use was the pinnacle of […] huge, time-consuming mechanics.

Not having to struggle with this anymore and simply being able to choose from a list of available aspects is the absolute best new feature in Diablo. This is absolutely game changing. Bravo!

He adds that at level 40 he only has three items in his chest. And the other users also agree with him. Below we summarize a few comments from the thread:

  • EnderCN writes on Reddit: “The fact that you no longer have to pick up and look through rare items is, in my opinion, just as important as the change to the codex.”
  • Worth_Performer7357 writes on Reddit: “That’s true. […] Item/aspect management was always the sticking point that made me give up every season after a week or two of hard grinding.”
  • race-hearse notes on Reddit: “I’m more willing to play other classes now that inventory management is more relaxed.”
  • Particular-Act-8911 notes on Reddit: “I knew it was bad… but now that it’s gone I realize how bad it was.”
  • Another user noted on Reddit that he is really enjoying the changes in Season 4. The best thing about it is that you no longer have to struggle with the aspects and “look at each one and decide whether you want to keep it”.

He writes: “When I press ‘Dismantle Everything’ and know that all of my aspects are going exactly where I want them, that’s probably the biggest dopamine hit I’ve gotten from this game so far.”

The affixes have also been revised for Season 4. Rare items only have two affixes instead of three, while legendary items have three affixes. This means you can safely leave “yellow” items lying around if you don’t want to equip them. This way you save inventory space and still don’t have to go without important materials: You can get the most important materials in Diablo 4 much more easily in Season 4.
