Since November 7, 2023, repairing a hole in clothing or resoling your shoes will cost less than usual. An initiative led by the State under the name of “Repair Bonus”.
Have you heard of the textile repair bonus ? This is the government’s new initiative to encourage consumers to extend the life of their clothes and shoes. Since November 7 2023visits to the retoucher or shoemaker should cost a lot cheaper. This aid, financed by a repair fund of 154 million euros over 5 years, is the extension of a first bonus put in place by the State at the end of 2022 for electronic devices. Two measures included in the anti-waste law for a circular economy (Agec law). This time concerned:
- seam repair (between 6 and 25 euros)
- repairing a hole, snag or tear on clothing (7 euros)
- repairing a zip (between 8 and 15 euros)
- resoling a pair of leather shoes (25 euros)
Objective: better and less consumption
According to figures from an Ifop survey for the eco-organization Refashion, 3 out of 4 French people have already gotten rid of clothes or shoes that they could have repaired. An act that 43% of those questioned explained by the cost of possible restoration. It is precisely these costs that the system put in place by the government intends to reduce, in order toencourage consumers to give a second wind to their wardrobe. Rather than throwing away their damaged parts to buy new clothes at low prices on shopping sites fast fashion who produce poor quality parts on an assembly line, they would thus become regulars at companies labeled “repair bonus”. Customers will see their reduction directly applied when paying for services in stores approved by Refashion. There are 601 of them throughout France listed on the Bonus Réparation site. For the moment, lingerie and household linen are not affected by this initiative, but could be in the coming months.
