Thandiwe Muriu, the new colors of the African woman

Thandiwe Muriu the new colors of African women

The 193 Gallery in Paris presents the first exhibition of Kenyan photographer Thandiwe Muriu. Entitled “You thought you could throw me away”, it offers the public bold and colorful works, from his “Camo” project, which means “Camouflage”.

Her works are colorful, warm, joyful portraits, which exalt the beauty of Africa and the African woman. Large-size prints that play with the codes of fashion photography, with fabrics like wax or kanga, with everyday objects, with traditions too, and which are nevertheless part of the modernity of women contemporary. A brilliant, thoughtful and committed graphic work, which leaves nothing to chance, which invites us to take a new look, and which is produced by a young self-taught Kenyan photographer, Thandiwe Muriu. Strong and unique works from an atypical journey. The exhibition ” You thought you could throw me away » is on view until December 30, 2023 at the 193 Gallery in Paris.

Photographer Thandiwe Muriu is the guest of VMDN.
