It was between Tess Medina and Josephine Freij in the final of TV4’s cooking competition on Wednesday evening, where the finalists usually had to prepare a three-course menu each. Tess Medina’s menu went home with the jury, and she was the one who became 250,000 kroner and a cookbook contract richer.
— It’s so incredible, incredibly fun! I have had to wait so long to say something, she says.
The detail that decided in “Sweden’s Master Chef” 2024
She started at the bottom
Tess Medina describes her journey in the program as starting at the bottom.
— I didn’t even think I would make it to the top twelve, and I was incredibly happy for every moment where I progressed. But I absorbed all the criticism and really tried to learn, and then everything continued upwards, she says.
Already in the spring, as the program has been broadcast and Tess Medina has progressed in the competition, she has noticed the attention and received a lot of requests.
— But the win itself of course means a lot to me. I want to write books and make TV appearances and all that, but above all I want to ride this wave and hopefully learn even more, she says.
Tess Medina’s friends have been pestering her to apply for the program year after year, always sending her the link to the application form. But this time there was no link, and that’s what finally made her search.
— It was as if I did it for myself, not because someone else pushed me. Then, however, I had drunk a glass or two of wine before I sent the application, so maybe I gained a little more courage, she says, laughing.
Therefore, Sweden’s master chef final was canceled prematurely
Cookbook and practice
In the future, in addition to the cookbook “À table med Tess”, an internship at the acclaimed restaurant at Fotografiska in Stockholm awaits, among other things. But first of all, on Wednesday evening, a big winner’s party awaited with near and dear ones and several other “Master Chef” participants:
— My parents invited like 200 people to watch the final at their house. They sent out a “save the date” and pretended it was just a regular social gathering. A “care drink” at 6pm on a normal Wednesday!?, she says.
— But it will be so nice to finally be able to tell everyone and cheer a little. It feels like a new life, a new chapter, a new era for me.
