A total of 2,395 cars were sold in the French market in February, one of Europe’s largest, according to figures from the industry organization Plateforme Automobile.

The figure follows on an even bigger loss – with 63 percent – in France in January, when only 1,141 cars were sold. In Europe as a whole, Tesla’s January sales fell by 45 percent, while the electric car market generally lifted 37 percent.
Tesla has previously flagged that design changes in the popular Y model would entail a production break in early 2025 when the factories are adapted. Thus, it was also a worse sale to wait.

But the downturn is also happening at the same time as the CEO and founder Elon Musk – now employees of US President Donald Trump – are increasingly interfering with European politics.
