Tesla will have to conduct a massive recall of its electric vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that the font size on some dashboard warning lights is too small for federal guidelines. Therefore, the company is recalling approximately 2.2 million electric vehicles to fix the problem. Fortunately for both Tesla and its customers, the automaker will not require drivers to bring their EVs to a dealership or repair shop. Will release a fix via over-the-air update.
Tesla vehicles recalled due to a problem
NHTSA discovered the issue during a routine safety compliance inspection last month. Text on brake, parking and anti-lock brake warning lights was found to be smaller than required under federal rules. This can make information difficult to read, which can increase the likelihood of an accident, the agency said.
Affected EVs are Model S (model years 2012-2023), Model X (2016-2023), Model 3 (2017-2023), Model Y (2019-2024), and Cybertruck. Tesla has not received any reports of injuries or accidents in the matter, but has found three potentially related warranty claims.
