The security police are warning on Wednesday of an increased number of attack threats against Sweden, mainly from violent Islamists – and several things are behind the development.

The terrorist threat level in Sweden remains at an elevated level, a third on a five-point scale, but it may be raised if the threats of attacks continue.
– What should be required is that this should continue over time, with the same dynamics, with the same large amount of information, says Fredrik Hallström, head of the counter-terrorism unit of the Security Police.
The Russian threat
However, it is not only about lone activists or terrorist organizations that pose the threat today, say researchers. Russia also plays into the threat picture, as Sweden supports Ukraine in the war.
– This is something that Russia will not forgive us for and it means in the long run that there is a risk that Russia as a state actor will step in and help jihadist networks carry out operations in Sweden, says terrorism researcher Hans Brun.
