Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist decided that the man should be arrested on Thursday and on Friday he was arrested by the Security Police, at an unknown location in Sweden.
A few days ago, a European arrest warrant was received by the Swedish authorities, where the man is singled out as a suspect for terrorist crimes.
– It is alleged that this person has committed a terrorist crime and due to special confidentiality I cannot provide any information about the description of the crime or which country it is, says Mats Ljungqvist.
The man has previously been wanted by Russia, but in this case it is another European country that wants the man extradited.
European Arrest Warrant
– It is a question of a European country because it is a European arrest warrant.
This afternoon, a detention hearing will be held where the Attunda district court will decide whether the man should be released or extradited to the European country.
– He is not suspected of any crime in Sweden, but this crime for which he is requested to be extradited must have taken place in another country, says Mats Ljungqvist.
Säpo confirms to SVT that a person has been requested to be detained for a terror-related crime in another country, but otherwise refers to prosecutors.
The man denies the crime:
– I can say that my client’s attitude is that the accusations against him are false, says lawyer Torben Setterlund, who has been appointed as public defender.
